There are a lot of techniques to cook bacon, but soon after tons of study (we’ve eaten A Great deal of bacon, guys), we have established the smartest to cook slices is in the oven: there is significantly less mess, it helps make serving bacon to a crowd SO easy, and the final results are just as crispy.
There are a couple of exceptions to this rule. If you are cooking only a couple slices, a skillet is simpler — with water if you’re wise! 2nd, if sauting bacon is a phase in a recipe that leads to one thing else being cooked in the bacon body fat (like in this breakfast potatoes recipe), adhere to the directions. Never go rogue and bake as an alternative.
But in 80 percent of all breakfast scenarios, the oven technique works very best. Here is how to perfectly cook bacon in the oven every single time.
one. Get the oven Scorching.
Preheat to 400° and line a huge baking sheet with foil. (You are going to be thankful once it is time to do dishes.)
Check Kitchen Note: Everyone’s oven is different. We very suggest using an oven thermometer to make sure that the heat is in fact at 400°. (Many builtin thermometers are inaccurate.) If yours is operating hotter, you danger burning the bacon.
two. Use your cooling rack.
If you like your bacon further crispy, put a metal cooling rack inside the baking sheet. Elevating the bacon enables the strips to cook from all sides. If you like your bacon with a small chew, or you do not have a cooling rack, skip this stage. Your bacon will still be wonderful.
3. Bake the bacon.
Lay bacon strips in a SINGLE layer on the baking sheet. Do not let them overlap or the strips will stick with each other. Bake until finally the bacon is crispy, about 20 minutes, based on its thickness. Our suggestions: Start off checking following 15 minutes simply because some ovens are finicky and burnt bacon is sad.
4. Drain the slices.
Per normal, drain the (really greasy) bacon slices on a paper towel-lined plate, then serve right away.
5. Save the bacon unwanted fat!
Pour grease into a mason jar (or other glass container) and keep in the fridge. Seriously although — conserving the excess fat will be the greatest selection you make all week. You can use it to cook eggs, roast vegetables, and pop popcorn!
